Business case: Stakeholder Analysis
1Situation
Election results in both national and regional Dutch elections have shown a major discrepancy between government politics and public
opinion in The Netherlands. The Dutch government has made it a priority to regain public trust and to bridge the gap between politicians and the Dutch public.
To do so, a close monitor is needed on public opinion and on the opinions of the various stakeholders in public matters.
2Problem
Public opinion and external stakeholders influence governmental policy at an ever increasing speed and intensity. This
forces the government to respond faster and more decisive to various matters, whilst constantly keeping the public informed.
In order to do so, governmental institutions need fast and reliable insight into the positions and opinions of the various
stakeholders in each matter. In the past, stakeholder analysis that created a clear picture of the situation was difficult
and timeconsuming.
3Solution
Astragy designed a system based on
Astragy Enterprise Edition in which a cross reference can be made between stakeholders and public themes. The government can add themes to the database and
invite the various stakeholders to enter their opinions, ideas and political preferences about the theme. Additonally, the general public opinion
can be added to the system using online polls and research programs.
The system provides context en topicality by linking daily news to both theme reports and stakeholder information.
The system allows quick benchmarks of the positions of various stakeholders about any given topic or theme, saving all
stakeholders valuable time while increasing the reliability of information.
