Business case: Research Library
1Situation
A global manufacturer in Fast Moving Consumer Goods market is active in eleven countries across Europe. It spends hundreds of
thousands of Euros on market research annually, which is delivered in PDF reports to product managers in the respective countries.
Most of the research reports cover multiple countries and markets and are relevant and useful to most European product managers.
2Problem
Earlier attempts to share the roughly 1200 topical reports via the local Intranet failed because of a lack of unity and consistency
in the definition of reports and report subjects. Additionally, searching for reports turned out to be difficult and product managers
often did not upload reports to the Intranet for a number of reasons. A system was needed to make reports findable and to ensure that
all relevant reports were correctly uploaded to the database, without burdening product managers with administrative tasks.
3Solution
Astragy solved the problem by using the webbased character of the
Astragy Enterprise Edition.
To increase consistency, research agencies are required to deliver reports directly to the Research Library. They log on to the system to upload
reports. They provide them with valuable metadata, regarding the scope of the research, geographic relevance, product relevance and an
executive summary. The uploaded document and metadata are stored in the Astragy database as 'draft version'.
A message is then sent to the relevant product manager who ordered the report. He himself logs on to the system and checks the uploaded
report. If he finds everything in order he releases the report for publication in the organization by changing the 'draft' status to
'published'.
From that moment, product managers and marketeers throughout Europe have access to the report(s) via the Research Library, which is
accessible via the corporate Intranet. A dedicated search screen allows users to search for reports by relevant categories and/or
free text search. Users can search for, compare and read the available reports quickly and easily.
